We sadly have to say goodbye to Dale Bryan Murphy, one of the greatest symbols of the Atlanta Braves and a legendary figure in our cherished club’s history. His impact on the Braves and Major League Baseball as a whole will never be forgotten.

Murphy, known for his humility, sportsmanship, and incredible talent, spent 15 seasons (1976–1990) with the Braves, where he became the face of the franchise during the 1980s. A true leader both on and off the field, he embodied everything a baseball player should be—hardworking, dedicated, and a role model for generations of fans.

His achievements speak volumes: back-to-back National League MVP awards (1982, 1983), seven All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, and four Silver Slugger Awards. As one of the most dominant players of his era, he hit 398 home runs and drove in over 1,266 RBIs, consistently leading the Braves with his bat and defensive skills.

But beyond the statistics, Dale Murphy was the heart and soul of the Braves during a challenging period in the franchise’s history. His leadership and unwavering commitment helped define an era of Braves baseball, paving the way for the team’s future success.

Off the field, Murphy was admired for his kindness and integrity. He was a true ambassador for the game, winning the Roberto Clemente Award in 1985 for his community service and sportsmanship.
