Florida State Re Honors Pope Francis: A Shepherd of Mercy and Peace

April 26, 2025 – Tallahassee, FL — In a moving ceremony filled with reverence and reflection, Florida State University (FSU) paid tribute to Pope Francis, recognizing him as a “Shepherd of Mercy and Peace.” The event, organized by FSU’s Religious and Cultural Affairs Office, brought together students, faculty, and community leaders to honor the Pope’s global mission of compassion, justice, and hope.

Held at the university’s iconic Westcott Plaza, the ceremony featured inspiring speeches, interfaith prayers, and musical performances celebrating unity and peace. A commemorative plaque was unveiled, dedicated to Pope Francis’ commitment to serving the marginalized and his enduring message of mercy across the world.

In a special highlight, the FSU Chamber Choir performed a rendition of “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace,” a hymn that beautifully captured the spirit of the occasion. Attendees also participated in a symbolic “Peace Walk” around campus, carrying candles and messages of hope.
