Lexington, KY – Kentucky Wildcats star Otega Oweh, the electrifying guard known as “Tegatron,” married his high school sweetheart, Amara Johnson, in a dazzling ceremony at Keeneland Race Course on May 15, 2025. The couple, who met at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey, celebrated with 300 guests, including NBA stars, teammates, and coach Mark Pope. The event featured a live band, a custom sneaker bar, and a fireworks display over the Bluegrass.
In a move that stole the spotlight, Oweh and Johnson announced a $7.5 million donation to establish the Tegatron Youth Basketball Academy in Oweh’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Set to break ground in 2026 in the city’s South Ward, the state-of-the-art facility will offer elite basketball training, academic tutoring, and mentorship for underprivileged youth in Essex County. “Newark gave me my start,” Oweh said. “This academy will help kids chase their dreams with the tools to succeed on and off the court.”

The announcement drew praise from Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who called it a “game-changer” for the community. Oweh, currently testing the 2025 NBA Draft waters, hinted at returning to Kentucky for his senior season, where he’s a top SEC Player of the Year candidate.
