Indiana Pacers star Myles Turner has made a heartwarming impact off the court with a deeply personal act of kindness — donating $2 million to a Texas-based animal rescue organization to help save thousands of abandoned and abused pets across the state.
The donation, made to Lone Star Paws & Rescue, a no-kill shelter near Turner’s hometown of Bedford, Texas, will go toward expanding shelter capacity, building a new medical treatment facility, and funding low-cost adoption and spay/neuter programs. Turner, a lifelong animal lover, said the cause hits close to home.
“I grew up around animals, and I’ve seen the heartbreak of pets being left behind or mistreated,” Turner shared. “This donation isn’t just about rescuing animals — it’s about giving them love, safety, and a second chance.”
The shelter’s director, Maria Linton, called Turner’s gift “a miracle,” noting that the funds will immediately help reduce overcrowding, boost rescue efforts, and upgrade life-saving veterinary equipment.
Turner’s pledge will also launch the “Turner’s Tails Program,” an initiative that brings shelter animals to schools and community centers to educate kids on responsible pet care and the importance of compassion toward animals.
