In a powerful and inspiring act of generosity, Ryan Williams, the Alabama Crimson Tide’s rising football star and one of the most promising young athletes in college football, has announced a $10.5 million investment to transform vacant and abandoned houses into fully functioning shelters for homeless youth.

At just 17 years old, Williams is not only making headlines for his incredible talent on the field, but now also for his heart off the field. The initiative, titled the “Williams Hope Project,” will begin in Birmingham and surrounding Alabama communities, with plans to expand statewide in the near future. The project’s mission is to provide safe, supportive housing for youth facing homelessness, while also offering access to education, mental health resources, and job training.

“I’ve been blessed with opportunities, and I feel it’s my responsibility to give back to those who don’t have the same support,” Williams said during a press conference in Tuscaloosa. “This is about more than just football — this is about making a difference that lasts beyond the game.”

Williams, a five-star recruit who made history by appearing on the cover of the College Football video game at just 17, is already viewed as a future NFL star. Yet despite his growing fame, he remains focused on using his platform to serve others. His $10.5 million donation, funded in part by NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) earnings and private contributions, will be managed by a team of nonprofit housing developers and youth advocates.

The shelters will feature:

  • Fully renovated living spaces

  • On-site counselors and social workers

  • Access to local schools and online learning tools

  • Partnerships with job readiness and internship programs

University of Alabama Head Coach Kalen DeBoer called Williams’ move “incredible and humbling,” adding, “Ryan is already a leader on this team, but what he’s doing for his community sets an example that goes far beyond the field. We’re proud of him.”

Community leaders across Alabama have praised the initiative, calling it a transformative step in tackling youth homelessness in the state. Local Birmingham Councilmember Tara Jenkins said, “Ryan Williams is showing us what true leadership looks like — using his influence to build hope for the next generation.”

As Williams prepares for a standout freshman season, he’s proving that greatness isn’t just measured in touchdowns — but in the lives you touch.

Ryan Williams: A star on the rise, and a heart for change. Roll Tide!
