The Arizona Cardinals have signed former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley to bolster their quarterback depth while Kyler Murray remains sidelined with a concussion. Huntley, who spent four seasons with the Ravens, will provide an experienced backup option as the Cardinals navigate a challenging period without their star QB.
Murray, the former No. 1 overall pick, has been out since suffering a concussion in a Week 8 game, leaving the Cardinals without their dynamic playmaker. While the team has not specified a timeline for his return, the decision to bring in Huntley signals the Cardinals’ desire to ensure stability at the quarterback position during Murray’s recovery.
Huntley, known for his mobility and dual-threat capabilities, has started five games over the past few seasons in Baltimore in place of Lamar Jackson. While his passing numbers haven’t always been eye-popping, Huntley’s ability to extend plays with his legs and manage the game in a run-heavy offense has earned him a reputation as a capable backup. Over his career, he has thrown for 1,430 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions, with a completion percentage of 64.8%.
The move to sign Huntley also allows the Cardinals to protect their long-term investment in Murray by ensuring they don’t rush his recovery. The team has been cautious with Murray’s health in the past, and with the season slipping away from playoff contention, Arizona has no reason to push their franchise quarterback back onto the field too soon.
Huntley’s addition brings veteran experience to the Cardinals’ QB room, and although he is not expected to unseat Murray as the starter, his presence provides a safety net in the short term as the team navigates Murray’s concussion recovery. If Huntley sees action, it will likely be as a stopgap, allowing the Cardinals to stay competitive in the interim.
