There aren’t many games on your schedule that should terrify you when you’re one of the best teams in the country and are frequently ranked as the top or second team in preseason surveys.
But, some people may start to pay attention when you have a road game against a team that is immediately behind you in the standings.
According to ESPN’s way-too-early ranking, the Ohio State Buckeyes, led by Ryan Day, are considered the second-best team in the country heading into the 2024 season. Outside of Michigan, they don’t have many games on their schedule that cause them problems every year, but this year’s Big Ten invasion of West Coast teams could change that.
The Oregon Ducks are their new opponent.
Preseason polls had Dan Lanning’s team ranked third, according to ESPN. The two teams will play in early October in Eugene at Autzen Stadium.
In a recent interview with John Canzano of 750 The Game, Bill Rabinowitz, the football writer for The Columbus Dispatch, stated that the Ducks represent Ohio State’s most difficult opponent this season.
“I believe that to be Ohio State’s hardest game of the season. It is at Oregon on the road. They haven’t performed there. The season will still be in its early stages. It’s a challenging game. Given that Michigan is expected to struggle this year, Michigan is the one game they can’t possibly lose. However, if you were to ask, “What game is Ohio State most likely to lose?,” in terms of difficulty Oregon, I would say.
