In a historic announcement that cements the legacy of one of college softball’s most iconic players, the University of Oklahoma has revealed plans to name its new softball field in honor of Jocelyn Alo, the NCAA’s all-time home run queen and beloved Sooner legend.
The decision was made public Monday morning, just days after Oklahoma’s latest Women’s College World Series (WCWS) run in 2025. Though the Sooners fell just short of a ninth national championship, the program’s continued dominance and commitment to legacy were on full display—and no name embodies that legacy more than Alo’s.
“Her Spirit Defines Us”
“Jocelyn Alo changed the game,” said head coach Patty Gasso during a press conference at Love’s Field. “Not just with her bat, but with her passion, her grit, her leadership. Her record-breaking spirit defines us. Naming this field after her is about more than numbers—it’s about honoring the heart of a champion who made OU softball what it is today.”
The new facility—currently under construction as part of Oklahoma’s expanded Love’s Field complex—is scheduled to be completed in early 2026 and will officially be called “Alo Field at Love’s Stadium.”
This marks the first time in OU athletics history that a women’s athletic facility will bear the name of a female athlete.
Jocelyn Alo: A Living Legend
A native of Hau‘ula, Hawai‘i, Jocelyn Alo took college softball by storm from the moment she stepped on campus in 2018. Over her career, she crushed a record-setting 122 home runs, helping lead the Sooners to two national championships and earning back-to-back USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year honors in 2021 and 2022.
Alo was not just a force at the plate—she was a cultural phenomenon, captivating fans with her power, poise, and unapologetic presence. She became a symbol of the new era of women’s sports: confident, dominant, and inspirational.
Her impact extended far beyond Norman. From ESPN highlights to national commercials to trailblazing NIL deals, Alo helped elevate softball’s visibility on the national stage.
“Jocelyn showed every little girl with a bat and glove that she belonged on the biggest stage,” said Gasso. “Now, her name will forever be part of the place where champions are made.”
Alo Reacts: “I’m Humbled and Honored”
Reached for comment during her current AUSL season, Alo was emotional about the announcement.
“I’m humbled and honored beyond words,” she said. “Oklahoma was my home. It’s where I found my voice, my fire, and my family. To know that generations of athletes will play on a field with my name—it means everything.”
Alo has remained closely connected to the program since graduating, regularly mentoring current players and helping promote the growth of the sport.
