Indiana Pacers star Myles Turner is once again showing that his impact reaches far beyond basketball. The veteran center has announced a $3 million donation to launch a groundbreaking Youth STEM Academy in his hometown of Bedford, Texas, aimed at empowering underserved children through education, innovation, and opportunity.
Turner, who has long been passionate about science and technology, said the academy will provide hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with a focus on robotics, coding, and environmental science. The academy will be open year-round and offer scholarships, mentorship programs, and summer camps to students from low-income families.
“I’ve always believed that education is the great equalizer,” Turner said. “Not every kid will grow up to be a pro athlete, but every kid deserves the chance to dream big — and that starts with access to the right tools.”
The facility, named the Myles Turner STEM Academy, will also partner with local schools and tech companies to bring real-world experiences and job training to Bedford’s youth.
Community leaders, educators, and NBA peers have lauded the move, calling Turner a role model both on and off the court. His donation is expected to fully fund the academy’s development, equipment, and staffing for its first five years.
With construction set to begin later this year, Turner plans to stay involved, making regular visits to speak with students and help guide the program’s vision.
