NBA Execs Stunned as Wildcats Sophomore Prepares to Declare for Draft: ‘He’s the Next Anthony Davis!’

In a development that has sent shockwaves through NBA front offices, Kentucky Wildcats sophomore Malik Trent is reportedly preparing to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft — and league insiders are buzzing. The 6’11” forward has been drawing comparisons to none other than NBA superstar Anthony Davis, with scouts marveling at his elite shot-blocking, perimeter agility, and polished post game.

“He’s the next Anthony Davis — no question,” one longtime NBA executive told The Athletic. “The way he controls the paint and switches on guards is rare, even at the pro level.”

Trent, who averaged 17.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game this season, made an immediate impact in Lexington. His ability to stretch the floor — shooting 37% from three — makes him a nightmare matchup on both ends. Despite being a sophomore, he’s only 19, and some execs believe he could go as high as No. 2 in what is shaping up to be a loaded 2025 class.

Wildcats head coach John Calipari hasn’t confirmed Trent’s intentions, but sources say the coaching staff is preparing for his departure. “He’s ready,” a Kentucky insider shared. “He has all the tools to make the leap.”

While Trent has not officially declared, an announcement is expected within the week. If projections hold, he could be Kentucky’s next one-and-done legend — even if it took him two years to get there.
