This offseason, former Ohio State Buckeyes star Ezekiel Elliott has been looking for a new NFL home after playing for one season with the New England Patriots.
The Dallas Cowboys, who were in dire need of a running back, were the team that initially drafted Elliott, and there has been more talk in recent days that Elliott was leaning toward rejoining them.
According to reports from NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Elliott and the Cowboys have agreed to terms on a deal that will send the former Buckeyes legend back to Dallas. Now, it seems like the smoke has turned into fire.
Elliott had 184 carries for 642 yards and three touchdowns in his one season away from Dallas. He also had 51 receptions for 313 yards and two touchdowns as a Patriots receiver.
Elliott was one of the NFL’s best rushing threats in his early years with the Cowboys. He made a big impression in his rookie season, rushing 322 times for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns while also collecting 32 catches for 363 yards and another score.
Elliott placed second to teammate Dak Prescott for the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year title that season and was a finalist for both the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards.
Elliott had three Pro Bowls, two NFL All-Pro selections, and 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns on 1,881 carries in 103 games by the end of his Cowboys career in 2023.
The former Buckeye now appears poised to contribute, if only little, to those totals.
