We sadly have to say goodbye to Shane Conlan, one of the greatest symbols of the Penn State Nittany Lions and a legendary figure in our cherished program’s history. His contributions to Penn State football and the legacy he left behind will forever be remembered by fans, teammates, and the entire Penn State community.

Conlan was the heart and soul of Penn State’s defense during his time with the team from 1983 to 1986. A dominant linebacker, he played a pivotal role in leading the Nittany Lions to their 1986 National Championship, cementing his place as one of the program’s all-time greats. His incredible performance in the Fiesta Bowl against Miami, where he recorded eight tackles and two interceptions, helped secure Penn State’s championship victory and showcased his unmatched skill and leadership.

Throughout his collegiate career, Conlan was known for his relentless pursuit of excellence, earning All-American honors twice and becoming a key figure in one of the best defensive units in Penn State history. His intensity, work ethic, and leadership on the field made him a fan favorite and an inspiration for generations of Nittany Lions players.

After leaving Penn State, Conlan continued his football journey in the NFL, where he became a three-time Pro Bowler with the Buffalo Bills. But no matter where his career took him, his love for Penn State and the Nittany Lion spirit never faded.

As we say goodbye to a true Penn State legend, we honor and celebrate his impact on the game and the memories he gave us. Thank you, Shane Conlan—you will always be a Nittany Lion. We Are… Penn State!
